1989 Flxible Metro 30096: Metropolitan Washington Area Transit Authority No. 5172

This bus not in service.

An operational 30 foot Flxible Metro donated by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority. Delivered in September of 1989, it served in Alexandria and Arlington, Virginia. Following was a stint as a leased bus for Ride On of Montgomery County serving as a downtown shuttle for Silver Spring, MD. It was returned to WMATA service in 2001 and repainted in their "third scheme" livery.  The 5100-series Flxibles were retired in 2006 and replaced by low-floor coaches of similar size.  Coach 5172 was donated to CC&T by Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority that same year.  It has since been

partially restored.

5172 is a very rare coach as it is one of only 347 of its type manufactured over 12 model years.  The 30096 was the smallest Flxible Metro coach ever offered and was produced between 1984 and 1995 for lighter routes with limited ridership.
